CARBONDALE, ILL. -- The head of Southern Illinois University is facing allegations that he plagiarized parts of his 1984 doctoral dissertation.
But the chairman of SIU's board of trustees says that panel is standing behind university President Glenn Poshard.
The Daily Egyptian student newspaper analyzed Poshard's 111-page paper and reports that it found about 30 sections that weren't attributed to their original works or weren't put in quotations.
Poshard told the newspaper that he disputes claims he lifted entire sections. He says he could have forgotten to properly cite sections, but he didn't plagiarize.
SIU board chairman Roger Tedrick says the board has been aware of the claims and doesn't believe the case involves plagiarism.
Poshard is a former Illinois congressman and a one-time Democratic candidate for governor.
