PITTSFIELD, ILL. -- Just because Pike County, Illinois isn't the Pig capital of the world anymore, doesn't mean they can't still celebrate them.
These past two days have been the 42nd annual Pig Days in Pittsfield.
People prepared their meat all day today for the cookoff this afternoon. Even though its called Pig Days, it wasn't all about pork.
It was a day of fun for all ages. A day that took a lot of time and effort.
"Next years preparation starts tomorrow. We have a group that takes care of the vendors section. We have a group on the cook off area. We have a group on our rides. We have a lot of contact with all the other community businesses. It's basically a year long preparation to put on this nice festival for everyone," said Lions Club President Mike Graham.
And What would Pig Days be without a Pig Skin Toss? Kids of all ages and adults threw, and threw, and threw, to see who could toss the pigskin the farthest. With two tries each, footballs went flying. The farthest female thrower was Lee Ann Walker and the farthest male thrower was Bryan Brokaw.
Pig Days is put on by the Pike County Lions Club.
