QUINCY, ILLINOIS -- For nine years, Quincy's Paw Pals has provided assistance to thousands of cat and dogs. This week, it's become a shelter on the road. Since October, the organization operated two days out of the week at a building on North Fifth Street. New owners have taken over the building, forcing Paw Pals to leave as of last week. Now, with only a van and some storage units, the Paw Pals staff has begun making house calls.

Its founder and president, Jane Holt wants to find a location downtown for the convenience of her visitors, but hasn't had any luck. That's not good news for a non-profit organization that provides a valuable service for an average of 500 to 600 dogs and cats each month.

"We provide free spade and neuter. We also provide free emergency vet care to pets of the community, who otherwise wouldn't be seen by a veterinarian," said Holt.

Beginning Monday, Paw Pals will be located at the city parking lot at Hampshire between Sixth and Seventh Street. Pet owners can arrive any time between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Donations are always appreciated.
