JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Three beaches at Missouri state parks have been closed because of high levels of E. coli bacteria.

The parks are Wakonda, Pomme de Terre and Watkins Woolen Mill.

The Department of Natural Resources says water samples taken Monday found high levels of E. coli at the beaches at all three parks.

The agency said Wednesday the beaches will remain closed until bacteria levels drop.

Wakonda is in northeast Missouri in Lewis County, Pomme de Terre is in the western part of the state and Watkins Woolen Mill is north of Kansas City.

Results of tests from beaches at Crowder, Finger Lakes and Cuivre River are expected to be available Thursday.
