SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- State officials say they're adding another $15 million to a mortgage loan program that helps veterans and active duty military personnel become homeowners.
So far 115 people have bought homes or reserved loans under the GI Loan for Heroes program. It was launched in May.
The Illinois Housing Development Authority put in $15 million in the program for its pilot year.
The program gives people below-market interest rates on mortgages, money for closing costs and classes on home ownership.
State officials say the additional funding is because of the success of the program.
Governor Rod Blagojevich says it gives men and women who have served the opportunity to achieve the American dream of owning a home.
