QUINCY, ILL. -- The city of Quincy is making it safer for kids at Dewey School this fall.
The city council is expected to make some traffic changes around 22nd and Cherry before school starts next month.
The city also could allow sidewalks to be blocked around the former Quincy Paper Box Company building downtown for some outside work over the next six months.

PETITIONS
By Madison Park Christian Church/Benefit for Wil Landrum requesting permission to conduct a raffle and have the bond requirement waived from now until 8/1/10. The City Clerk recommends approval of the permit.
By the Arthritis Foundation requesting permission to hold their “20th Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk” on Saturday, December 4th beginning at 10:00 a.m. The route begins behind the Quincy Mall leaving the parking lot at College Ave. exit crossing 36th Street east on Columbus Road to 39th Street then north on 39th to Moorman Park past the lake and around the upper park area returning to the Mall on the same route. They are requesting the help of the Police Auxiliary.
By St. Jude Runs requesting permission to hold a run on August 6th starting at 5:30 p.m. They are requesting “no parking” signs be set up on August 5th at 5th to 6th Hampshire starting at noon and to close the street on August 6th between 5th & 6th just west of Jail Alley. The run will begin at 5th & Hampshire, go south on 5th to Maine, east on Maine to 54th, north on 54th to Broadway, and continuing out on 104. They are also requesting a Quincy Police escort to the city limits.
A revocable permit application for encroachment of city right-of-way by Stupavsky Roofing and Restoration to block the sidewalk on the north and west side of 230 N. 3rd for repairs to exterior of building for approximately 6 months. The City Engineer presents this request subject to five conditions.
REPORTS OF THE TRAFFIC COMMISSION
Recommending that “No Parking” be established by posting proper signage commencing at the corner of North 24th & High St. north side and extending east a distance of 260’.
Recommending that “No Parking” be established by painting the curb yellow and placing proper signage along the south side of Cherry Street along the Dewey School property from the corner of N. 22nd extending west 620’. This will be in effect between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on school days.
Recommending the westbound traffic on Cherry Street at North 22nd be blocked while students are being dismissed from Dewey School.
Recommending approval of the request for placing three “15 mph” speed signs in the “T” alley between 12th to 13th, Ohio to State.
Recommending “Yield” signs be placed at the intersection of 23rd & Adams St., with 23rd St. yielding to Adams St.
Recommending a “4-Way Stop” at the intersection of 25th & Spring St. be denied.
