QUINCY, ILL. -- A Quincy resident says newer properties incorporated in Quincy's city limits since 1999 are overpaying property taxes.

Michael Black says this affects 554 properties around the edge of Quincy in Melrose and Ellington townships.

He's filing a lawsuit against the townships, and is in the process of gathering residents who want to join.

Black says a property owner who owns a $100,000 home is paying about $140 extra in taxes per year.

Black says he has 70 residents signed up so far. He says there's no cost or responsibility to join the lawsuit.

Here's another way to figure out if you might be overpaying in property taxes.

Look at your property tax bill. If the top of it reads both Quincy Corp and either Melrose or Ellington Township, you qualify to participate in this lawsuit.

If you're interested in joining or have questions, contact Black at quincytaxes@gmail.com or call (217) 641-1244.
