BURLINGTON, IA. -- The following is a news release from the Burlington Iowa Police Department:
On July 25, 2010 at approximately 5:25am, officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to a convenience store on Roosevelt Ave. to a report of a victim of an assault that occurred behind Crazy Coyote, 2505 Mt. Pleasant Street, Burlington, Iowa.
A 51-year-old Burlington female resident was going to the business to clean when she interrupted a burglary of the business in progress.
The burglar assaulted the victim with the tools he was using to gain entry to the business.
She received blunt force trauma injuries to her face while continuing to resist the attack.
The victim described her attacker as a masked male over 6 feet tall, thin build and wearing gloves.
The victim’s resistance to her attacker could have caused injuries to her attacker that could be noticeable by the general public.
The masked attacker could have injuries to the his face and ear area consistent with scratch and bite marks.
The victim did receive medical treatment for her injuries and was hospitalized as a result of the attack.
The victim was able to drive away from the scene of the attack to seek help from the convenience store clerk on Roosevelt Avenue.
