KEOKUK, IOWA -- A natural gas leak in Keokuk was contained on Monday evening.

That's according to the Keokuk Fire Department.

Earlier Monday night, police and fire crews responded to the leak on North 17th.

A spokesperson with the fire department said a contractor hit a gas line.

Extra fire fighters were paged to the fire station as a precaution.
