SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Applications for this year's Illinois Senior Hall of Fame Awards are now available.

Department on Aging Director Charles Johnson says a nomination is a "great way to honor exceptional individuals" who have helped others.

Lawmakers established the Senior Hall of Fame in 1994 and 75 people have been inducted.

The award recognizes older adults who excel in community service, education, performance or graphic arts and the labor force.

Eligibility is based on past and present accomplishments.

Candidates must be 65 and a current or former resident of Illinois.

Nominees may be inducted posthumously.

An award ceremony sponsored by Walgreen Co. is scheduled for October.
