QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a press release from John Wood Community College:
John Wood Community College’s Community Education Office is offering four personal interest classes in Quincy starting August 12. Call 217.641.4905 to register.
RAW Foods and Recipes, a new class, meets Thursday, August 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This class explains what a raw diet consists of and how simple it is to make delicious raw recipes. The addition of raw food to your diet will increase your health and aid with weight loss. Raw recipes will be shared and sampled. Instructor is Cynde Nozawa. Cost is $ 21 plus a $5 supply fee payable to the instructor.
Floral Design I meets Thursdays, August 19 to September 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will make a fresh floral centerpiece as well as silk and dried arrangements. Other floral design classes will be offered later in the semester. Greg Lueckenhoff, owner of Adam Florist in Quincy, will teach the class. Cost is $60 plus a supply fee of $10 payable to the instructor on the first day of class.
American Rumba, Foxtrot and Country Two-Step will meet Thursdays, August 26 to September 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the JWCC cafeteria. Students will learn the basics of the American Rumba, an easy to learn Latin dance; Foxtrot, with it’s graceful magic rhythm; and the Country Two-Step, featuring a variations of turns. Students are encouraged, but not required, to register with a partner. The instructor is Dollye Frame. Cost is $65 per person.
R.A.D. Basic Self-defense for Women will begin Thursday, August 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and run for five weeks. The Rape Aggression Defense System is a comprehensive, women-only course. Information about awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance and self-defense tactics and techniques for females ages 12 and older will be presented. Nationally certified R.A.D. instructor, Charles McDonald, will also teach the basics of hands-on defense training. Cost is $50 (a workbook and reference manual is included).
