BEARDSTOWN, ILL. -- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin made a stop in Beardstown Saturday morning. He was at Café from Yesterday talking with community members about the things that are important to them. He talked about health care, immigration, and the war. This isn't an election year for him but he says visits like these are very important.
"I try to keep in touch with folks in central Illinois, southern Illinois and when I come home to Springfield, this is a short trip away and its a chance to meet with a lot of people. We had a great turn out here in Beardstown. People are concerned about the economy. I want to hear their concerns about things that we're talking about in Washington," Senator Durbin said.
One thing they talking about in Washington is a new bill for small businesses. Durbin hopes to get things moving quickly on this because the senate breaks next week.
"Our goal is to have a small business bill passed and start to move forward so that by September we can have this in place, to help a lot of businesses in our state," Senator Durbin said."
He also spoke about the Asian Carp situation and thinks it's a good idea to send them back to Asia.
