CANTON, MO. -- Canton Police Chief Michael Kemp was fired Monday when he didn't show up for work following a suspension.

That's according to the Hannibal Courier-Post.

Mayor Terry Fretwell said a "variety of situations and reasons" led to his dismissal of Kemp, who had served in the job since Nov. 19, 2009.

Sgt. William Hudnell will continue indefinitely as acting chief.
