QUINCY, ILL. -- The Quincy City Council this evening began the process of potentially closing portions of Oak and 10th street around Blessing Hospital.

Blessing-Rieman school of nursing is planned for some of the property in that area, as well as other medical developments.

Aldermen also accepted a settlement of nuisance abatement liens for a property at 2031 south 24th.

As expected, Steve McQueen with the Quincy Tea Party addressed the council.

He said if the $6-million dollars in state money offered for a new bus/Amtrak intermodal facility could not be applied to current needs in the city, that it be returned.

McQueen pointed to state payments to Quincy Public Schools being $5.8-million dollars behind, and said the city should not consider accepting the money during a state financial crisis, for something the city doesn't need.
