Hannibal removes flood gates

Mississippi River still above flood stage

HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Mississippi River at Hannibal has dropped nearly three feet since Saturday, July 31st.

At 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5th the river was at 19 feet, which is still in moderate flood stage.

Despite remaining above the 16 foot flood stage, the city of Hannibal has removed it's flood gates.

All five of the flood gates were out by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Mississippi is expected to drop back below flood stage late next week.
