Hannibal Courier Post distributing flags for funeral procession
HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Tri-States will lay to rest one of its own heroes Friday, August 6th.
Retired United States Army Sergeant Paul McAlister II died in his Hannibal home Monday, August 3rd at the age of 37.
He retired in October of 2009 after being wounded in Iraq while searching for explosive devices.
McAlister died from complications caused by those injuries.
Among other awards, Paul McAlister received the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and a Purple Heart.
A video tribute has been posted on the site of James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
The funeral services will be at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal Friday (8/6) morning.
After the services a procession will take McAlister's body to the Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.
The Hannibal Courier Post will be including flags in Friday's paper.
Publisher Jack Whitaker is hoping people will take those pages and hold them up outside as the procession passes.
"It's really not about what we're doing, it's about what this young man did. He gave his life for this country and I think it's important that every body recognized that and show the respect that he deserves," said Whitaker.
After leaving James O'Donnell Funeral Home the procession will travel down 5th Street to Broadway.
It will go west on Broadway to Grand Avenue and head north and eventually connect with Interstate 72 to go to Quincy.
Here are the funeral arrangements for 37 years old Sergeant Paul McAlister II.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.
The service will be Friday, August 6th at 10:00 a.m.
A procession will then go to Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.
