HANNIBAL, MO. -- The following is a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation:

Weather permitting, Monday, August 23, MoDOT and its contractor will install construction signs, and start milling and resurfacing more than 22 miles on Routes C, K, and Business Route 61 in Lewis County on Tuesday, August 24. The contractor has tentatively set the following work schedule for these projects.

Route K - Crews will be resurfacing near LaBelle from Route E to Route 6 in LaBelle, 8.2 miles. Milling operations are scheduled for August 24 and begin paving August 26.

Business Route 61 - Crews will be resurfacing in LaGrange from Route 61 to Route B approximately 1.8 miles. Milling operations are scheduled for August 24 and begin paving September 1.

Route C - Crews will be resurfacing near LaGrange from Route 6 in Ewing to Route 61 near LaGrange. Milling operations are scheduled for August 25 and begin paving September 2, weather permitting.

Crews will be working from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. One lane of traffic will be open during the milling and resurfacing process with a 10 ft. width restriction in the work zone area. Motorists in LaBelle, LaGrange and Ewing are advised not to park their vehicles along these routes during business hours due to dust and limited space during milling and resurfacing operations. Construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zone, therefore motorists will experience some delays and alternate routes are suggested.

Flashing arrow boards and orange signs will alert motorists prior to the work zone to secure the safety of the motoring public as well as the safety of the workers.  Please use extra caution while traveling through the work zone.  All lanes of traffic will be open at the end of the workday. W. L. Miller Co., of Hamilton, IL was awarded the contract for $1,031,609.21. The funding for these projects originates from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act authorized by the federal government.

All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map on the day it begins. Those traveling and the commuting public are encouraged to check the online map at www.modot.org daily for new work zones. MoDOT also offers e-update messages sent directly to your email when roadwork is scheduled. Sign up online or call MoDOT's customer service center at 1-888-275-6636.
