HANNIBAL, MO. -- Sunday morning, flames ripped through a building behind the Free Methodist Church in Hannibal. The church was renovating this space for a new youth center. It's pastor arrived at the church around 7:15 a.m. to find the place in flames. He said had it not been for the quick response of the Hannibal Fire Department, the church would have lost the entire building. Fortunately, no one was in the building at the time.
The Hannibal Fire Department says the fire was caused from a short in electrical wires underneath the floor.
The Free Methodist church is the same church that took in more than thirty children from the Building Blocks Daycare just three weeks ago after floods damage their building.
