Mattoon Illinois wants out

There's a snag in the FutureGen project recently announced by Senator Dick Durbin.
MATTOON, ILL. --
Dubin announced that Meredosia would be the site of a retrofitted coal plant.

Carbon dioxide produced by that plant was expected to be stored undergroun in Mattoon Illinois.

Now that city says it wants out of the plan.

Mattoon wants out because of abrupt changes that scrap a plan to build the experimental clean-coal power plant in the town.

Although disapointed, Senator Durbin was quick to point out that a number of other towns in the state have expressed an interest to be a part of the project.
