13 out of 15 tourist information centers in Illinois have been shut down to try and save the state money.
A spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity says the closures could be short-term if the agency can get Gov. Pat Quinn's budget office to sign off on a spending plan for the agency, which includes contracts to run the centers.
One of the agencies affected is The Western Illinois Tourism Development Office in Macomb which ran the centers under a contract with the state.
The office operated the centers for about a dozen years and was paid $2 million a year.
Only tourist centers in Springfield and Chicago remain open.
