Dog park and soccer fields still need fences repaired

HANNIBAL, MO. -- The flooding that hit Hannibal a few weeks ago (7/20) caused suffering for countless residents, homes and businesses.

It also took quite a toll on some of the city's parks.

Debris littered Dempsey Dog Park.

Everything from washers, dryers and tires to scrap metal and trees were scattered across the area.

That has since been picked up.

Water from the nearby creek also knocked down fences at the dog park and the soccer fields.

"We have some fence repairs that we need to make. We're hoping to be able to save everything. We still have some work left to do. The water is coming back up again so we might not be able to get to it this week, but basically repair some fencing is what we have left to do," said Interim Parks and Recreations Director Andy Dorian.

Dorian says all the repairs should only cost a couple hundred dollars and he hopes to have them done next week.

The small dog area at Dempsey Dog Park has been reopened.
