ILLINOIS -- As the national unemployment rate lingers around nine and a half percent, there's some good news for Illinois. The state has seen a decline in its unemployment within the last couple of months. Compared to almost ten percent back in recent months, June numbers show Illinois stood at just over seven and a half percent. KHQA spoke with Cheryl Liggit with the Adecco Employment Agency in Quincy. She says this summer has seen quite a shift in unemployment.
"Two months ago was up to almost ten percent, so it's declining. So that's nice to see that there are a lot of people who are starting to employ people in this area. It's very agricultural based, so there's a lot of jobs happening right now. Some of them are temprorary, some of them are permanent," said Liggett,
She says this summer has seen a decrease in unemployment due to temporary job availability.
"I think companies are just more willing to use temp agencies because they're not sure what the future holds, so they're saying, 'I don't have to hire these people on, I have temp needs.' And if they do have business continue where they need them, they can convert them over to their payroll at that time," said Ligget.
She says the first step in finding a job is applying everywhere and staying proactive.
