HANNIBAL, MO -- Here's a followup to a story we brought you earlier this month about the death of Retired Army Sergeant Paul McAlister in Hannibal.

The thirty-seven year old man died from complications from injuries he received in the Iraq war.

The Hannibal Courier-Post reports a representative from The Oprah Winfrey Show contacted the James O'Donnell Funeral Home shortly after McAlister's death and offered to pick up the unpaid tab.

The newspaper reported that McAlister's mother plans to write a letter of thanks to Ms. Winfrey.
