QUINCY, ILL. -- UPDATE: August 18 at 8:30 p.m.
The Quincy School Board meeting had to postpone discussions on Bud Niekamp's potential resignation, when a court order did not come through detailing the case. The next available date for talks is scheduled for August 25, at 7 a.m.
August 18 at 3:56 p.m.
The president of the Quincy School Board has offered to resign, but he has a long list of conditions.
"Bud" Niekamp sent a letter this morning... In it, he says he wants the board to immediately appoint him to serve out the remainder of his term, and elect him board Vice President.
He wants the plaintiffs in the Quo Warranto suit against him, or other private citizens, to pay legal expenses for both Niekamp and the district.
He also wants to chair an Oversight & Review Ad Hoc committee to look at the district's finances, and to evaluate the district's legal counsel, Dennis Gorman.
Niekamp isn't saying whether he'll appeal last week's ruling that his election to the board was void.
If he doesn't appeal within 30 days, he'll be kicked off the board.
But he can stay on the board during an appeal.
Board vice president Tom Dickerson told us this morning he doesn't believe the board would consider Niekamp's proposal.
The board has offered to let Niekamp resign and re-appoint him.
That deal has Dickerson becoming president, and a new vice president being elected.
The board meets tonight for the first time since the ruling on Niekamp's board status.
Niekamp told us he expects it will be a lively meeting.
It starts at seven o'clock at Baldwin Intermediate School.

UPDATE: August 18 at 11:09 a.m.
Board member Tom Dickerson has issued the following comment, "I don't know what to say, it's just example of what we're dealing with. Lots of things aren't true and are somewhat ridiculous - there might be some discussion, but I speak for myself and not for the whole board. I don't think that we would entertain anything so absurd."
