QUINCY, ILL. -- This week marks the 90th anniversary of our nineteenth amendment, giving women the right to vote. Sunday, the League of Women Voters of Adams County sat down to tea at The Pier restaurant to honor a past member, Evelyn Sacadat. This year marks the first in which the group will give out an award in her honor. It's recipient: Melissa Holden, a former director at Quincy's YWCA and a leader in the community for more than a decade, focusing on areas including racial equality and homelessness. Holden wants everyone to remember the big picture when it comes to voting.
"Having the right to vote is only good if you use it. So we're really excited about this. Especially with this election season coming up, there's a lot going on that people need to be involved in," said Sacadat.
Monday night at the city council meeting, Quincy Mayor John Spring will read a proclamation recognizing the league and Women's Equality Day. The public is invited to attend and is asked to arrive around 7:15 p.m.
