DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa's corn and soybean crops continue to develop ahead of normal.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that nearly all corn acres in Iowa have reached milk stage, 87 percent have reached dough stage, and 54 percent have started to dent. All of those stages are still ahead of last year and the five-year average.
Pods have set on 95 percent of soybean acres. That's three days ahead of last year and one day ahead of average.
About two-thirds of Iowa's corn is rated in good or excellent condition. About two-thirds of soybeans also are in good or excellent condition.
Most of Iowa got a break from heavy rains last week. There were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork - the highest reported since the week ending May 30.
