Both sides get more time to negotiate
QUINCY, IL -- Contract negotiations between the Quincy teachers union and the school board continue.
Wednesday morning the school board agreed to extend the current teachers contract until September 8th.
The extension gives both sides some breathing room to work out their differences.
The move will allow both sides more time to address some of the big sticking points like salaries and benefits.
Michelle Eberlin, the president of the Quincy Federation of Teachers says, "It gives us an opportunity to continue discussions which we feel are making some progress and so tonight we'll meet again in negotiating sessions to continue the process."
700 hundred teachers, para-professionals, social workers and others are covered by this contract.
School board Vice President Tom Dickerson says he's glad the option of going on strike has not come into the picture.
The school board and the teachers are scheduled to meet again Wednesday night at 6:30.
