MACOMB, ILL. -- The following is a news release from Western Illinois University in Macomb;
Public vehicle access to West Murray Street (C.T. Vivian Way) on the Western Illinois University campus from Western Avenue to just east of Mowbray Hall will be closed from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, effective Friday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Sept. 10 to ensure the safety of pedestrian traffic while an alternate route is created to further enhance accessibility from the northwest quadrant of campus to the Multicultural Center and Mowbray Hall (Office of Public Safety) during the University Union south entrance construction, according to Ted Renner, deputy director of facility planning and construction for the WIU Physical Plant.
The University Union entry and elevator installation will provide greater accessibility to the facility. The new elevator will provide students, faculty, staff and visitors access to the Heritage Room on the second floor. Previously, the second floor of the University Union has been accessible only by stairs or a freight elevator.
Access to the Multicultural Center and to the Office of Public Safety (Mowbray Hall) is also available from Sherman Drive, directly east of Mowbray. ADA compliant parking spaces are available in the lot east of Mowbray and there is sidewalk access to Mowbray and the Multicultural Center from the east lot.
