SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- New lighting has been installed in three areas of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum that officials say will save energy and help preserve some of the site's exhibits.

Officials from the museum in downtown Springfield said in a news release Monday that they used $25,676 in federal stimulus money toinstall LED lighting in the "Ghosts of the Library" show and in two exhibit areas.

The new lighting replaces traditional incandescent lighting.

According to the museum the new lights will save more $293,000 and use 272,500 fewer kilowatt hours than incandescent over their anticipated 10-year lives.

LED lights also don't produce ultraviolet light that can fade some exhibits.
