QUINCY, ILL. -- Since the earthquake hit Haiti in February, the Hanger clinic has given care to 600 Haitian amputees.
And now one Quincy resident is going there to give back to the people who have lost more than just their hope.
Certified prosthetist Brandon Khoury leaves tomorrow on a two-week trip to Haiti. He will join a team at a clinic 60 miles from Port-au-Prince.
"Our field is pretty small, it's a pretty small group of professionals so I feel that any expertise I have to offer is going to benefit to somebody in need," said Brandon Khoury.
While he's there, Khoury will evaluate patients and come up with plan. Then, he will fit the prosthesis, and help the patients transition from the fitting to therapy.
"It was a major traumatic accident so we're going to see a lot more traumatic amputations that we don't normally see, or don't see as much of here," Khoury said.
Even though he will be gone for two weeks, Khoury thinks that's not enough time.
"I know there's estimated about 3,000 people who are in need of prosthetic services and for the first 6 months, we've seen 600.
