The southern Iowa Labor Council held its annual Labor Day Picnic Sunday for union members and the public. A number of political candidates made appearances including Governor Chet Culver.

While Iowa maintains one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, southeast Iowa continues to be one of the worst hit areas in the state. Governor Culver says he has a plan to reverse that trend and it started with the I-Jobs program.
