IA school district improperly used general fund money

A southeastern Iowa school district has asked the state to forgive nearly one million dollars that was improperly transferred to a child care center.

State records show that Van Buren schools have used general fund money since 2000 to help support a district-run child care center.

Administrators say they didn't know the practice was illegal.
