CHICAGO (AP) -- When it comes to eating fruits and vegetables, Illinois adults are just about average. But that's far from what's recommended to be healthy.

A federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows no states have come close to meeting the 2010 goal.

That target was for 75 percent of adults to eat at least two fruit servings daily and for at least 50 percent to eat three or more vegetable servings.

The national average last year for fruit was just 32.5 percent; in Illinois it was 32.4 percent. For vegetables, nationally it was 26.3 percent. Illinois was at 23.3 percent.

Fruit and vegetable consumption has dropped slightly in Illinois since 2000, as it has nationally.
