Hundreds of people expected along Quincy riverfront
QUINCY, ILL. -- Get out your bibs because it's time for another two days of messy barbecue excellence in Quincy.
Smoke on the River kicks off today down by the river front in Kessler Park.
Grill masters showed up before 9am this morning to get set up for the 4th annual competition.
Hundreds of people are expected to show up today and tomorrow for the event.
We asked local grill master Larry Ely of Ely's BBQ in Quincy what was most important the sauce or the grill that you cook the meat on?
Larry said, " I think they're equally important. I mean the grill can make a difference in your product as well as the sauce. A good sauce can often times cover up some of the mistakes that you make throughout the cooking process."
Five thousand dollars in total prize money is up for grabs including a $1000 grand prize.
