After our report about a Quincy man arrested on Labor Day for an unaltered dog charge, we received an e-mail about whether owning an unaltered pit bull was illegal.

It is not, unless you are a convicted felon.

In Illinois, convicted felons who own dogs, or live in a household with dogs, are required to have the dogs neutered or spayed and micro-chipped.

Jane Holt with Paw Pals confirmed the dogs living with the suspect in this case are being neutered and micro-chipped this week.
