QUINCY, ILL. -- For some people, finding a new job means finding a new skill. But then employers want experience. It can be a vicious cycle.
In the past year, John Wood Community College has tried to make that transition much easier. The Workforce Development Center is one way people in the area can receive training on a short or long range basis. Students can take classes to earn an associate degree or get customized training for an immediate job opening.
The Dean of John Wood's Career, Technical and Workforce Education, Phil Conover told KHQA there's no limit on age or work history to become enrolled.
"The average age of our student at John Wood is 26. So we've got a lot of people who are starting their lives over, changing their lives, changing their careers, looking for new things to get into," said Conover. "We have many areas there that they can look at with viable careers, at which would allow them to stay in our region and work here."
On Saturday, September 25th, John Wood will hold a Workforce Career Fair. That will go from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Job seekers will be able to meet with the school's training instructors and employers looking to hire.
