QUINCY, ILL. -- UPDATED: September 17 at 4:07 p.m.

KHQA received a copy of the school board agenda for the next meeting, which is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Baldwin Intermediate School Round Room.

As of Friday afternoon, no action is slated on a teacher's contract.

The board is expected to hold an open public hearing on the tentative budget for the 2010-2011 school year.

Quincy teachers turned out to the Machinists Lodge in Quincy Thursday night to vote on a proposed contract from the Quincy School Board.

Wednesday night, the Quincy Federation of Teachers agreed to take the proposal to its full membership for a vote.

Neither side could elaborate on specifics of the proposed contract.

But Quincy School Board Vice President Tom Dickerson told KHQA that the latest negotiations have centered around benefits and salaries.

The Quincy Federation of Teachers is holding a few sessions to give teachers the information they need to vote on the proposed contract.

Michelle Eberlin said, "We'll present the board's proposal to our members, and they will hear the proposal , then they'll have the opportunity to review some of the data on large charts."

So far, two meetings were held Thursday night. Another meeting is scheduled Friday at 4 p.m. at the union office on South 36th Street. That's because curriculum night at the Quincy Junior High School and Monroe Elementary prevented some teachers from attending Thursday night's meetings. But Dickerson told me he wished all teachers could hear the same information all at once rather than breaking it up into more than one session.

Dickerson said, "That's unusual. They usually will postpone it until a time where you can get everyone. It's important for everyone who has to vote has the same information and hears the same questions that people might ask, so I'm a little discouraged that that's the way it's going to be done, but that's not our call."

Ebelin said, "We'll finalize the voting process on Sunday. We'll have the office of QFT on south 36th Street open from 2 to 4 p.m., and the opportunity is to have the final opportunity for folks to review the proposal, and then to vote."

Eberlin said teachers will be given an opportunity to take the information they learn from one session home to their families before voting on it.

Dickerson said, "I'm hopeful that a majority of the union will support what we've put on the table. We've worked hard on it. Obviously, it's often times not what everyone wants."

Dickerson said if the teachers accept this contract, he'll present it to the full school board next Wednesday.

You might recall Quincy teachers have been working without a contract since last week.

That's when their former contract expired.
