SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois officials are stocking 37 ponds and lakes throughout the state with trout in anticipation of the fall fishing season.
The trout fishing season begins Oct. 16. Officials will stock locations with 70,000 trout before then.
Those who go fishing must have a fishing license and inland trout stamp.
The exception is for people under 16, who are blind or disabled or an Illinois resident on leave from the military.
The daily catch limit is five trout.
Those who want to fish opening day may start at 5 a.m., if the location they're visiting is open that early.
Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller says the changing autumn leaves and cooler weather make fall fishing enjoyable.
