QUINCY, ILL. -- Entries for John Wood Community College’s 26th Annual Art Show and competition will be accepted October 18 to 21.

For the second year, the show will follow a small works concept, requiring that entries not exceed the dimensions of 12” x 12” x 12”.  All professional or amateur artists age 18 and older in the Tri-State Area are invited to enter.  All works must be original pieces completed within the past 12 months.  Artwork must not have been previously exhibited at JWCC as part of any contest.  Artists may enter any medium, and each artist may enter a maximum of three works in the same category or in a combination of categories.

Entries should be brought to the JWCC Community Education Office in the upper level of the Paul Heath Center on the Quincy campus at 48th and Harrison, Monday through Thursday, October 18 to21 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The entry fee is $20 for three works or $7 per individual entry.  All fees are payable at the time of entry.  No early or late entries will be accepted.  The show will be presented in the lower level lobby of the Heath Center November 4 to November 29.  A reception and awards presentation will be held Thursday, November 4, at 6:30 p.m.   The public is invited free of charge.

Kelli Langston, JWCC community education specialist, says the show’s small works concept inspires artists.  “We are challenging all area artists to create works that follow this format, and we hope they produce some unique and special pieces for this exhibit,” she said.   “Last year we received some really great entries and we hope that even more people will know about the small works idea and consider entering now that we’ve got one year under our belt.”

Monetary prizes will be awarded for Best of Show and to the first place winners in each of five categories: painting--watercolor/tempera; painting--oil/acrylic; drawing/original prints (pen and ink, pastel, colored pencil or pencil); two-dimensional miscellaneous hanging art (collage, scratchboard, mosaic, photography or computer-generated art); and three-dimensional art (wood, clay, metal or sculpture).  The show may be viewed during regular operating hours. The College will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24 and will remain closed through November 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Artwork may be picked up on Tuesday, November 30, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Heath Center.
