QUINCY, ILL. -- Ten teams of 5 competed in the first annual Wheelchair basketball tournament today.  The event was held at John Wood Community College.  The co-ed teams changed the rules to see the game through the eyes of someone else.

"Our idea behind this was to bring more awareness for people with disabilities so people know what it's like to have to go through sometimes being in a wheelchair, or having to deal with a disability that they have," said Glenda Farkas with Western Illinois Center for Independent Living.

"It's kind of an eye opener through, to really kind of see what these people go through as far as having to be wheel chair bound and stuff like that," said Quincy police officer Bruce Baker.

"People don't realize the everyday life of what they have to go through, the struggles if you have a disability and I think it's also important so people realize what they can do and they can still have a good time," said Farkas.

"It's very hard on your arms and your shoulders and everything like that. We're all just out here having a good time and trying to give back a little bit," said Baker.

Officer Bruce Baker and his team did win the tournament.  He was on one of the two teams from the Quincy Police Department.
