HANNIBAL, MO. -- Flood victims in Hannibal got some relief Thursday.  It's part of the 15th Annual Day of Caring. It started out just helping a couple organizations but has turned into a week long event.

Two months ago, residents in Hannibal's Bear Creek Basin were flooded out of their homes.

Today... The water has dried up but the damage is still evident.

As part of United Way's Day of Caring, water heaters were delivered to some flood victims-- one of them is Cassie Harvey.

"I'm glad that they could do this and help people out like this. It's really nice, really cool," said flood victim Cassie Harvey.

Harvey's water heater is in the under ground basement.

You can still see where all the mud and water rushed in.

Across town, Melissa Simpson got her water heater installed.

The water came over the bank behind her house and flooded her basement.

The past few months for her have been...

"Terrible. Really terrible. But we dealt with it, you know? I'm really glad that they're doing things for the families around Hannibal. Me and my husband really appreciate what they're doing," said Simpson.

Simpson also had one more thing to say for other flood victims.

"Just hold on. Things are going to get better. Everything's going to turn out great. Their time's coming and it's soon, so I really wish the best for the other families," said Simpson.

Also part of Mark Twain United Way's Day of Caring, some kids got a day full of ants.

They didn't eat real ants but instead made their own ants on a log snack.

The kids at Head Start Day care sat down and listened to United Way volunteers read Hundred Hungry Ants.

After that the kids got to sing and dance along to The Ants go Marching song.

That worked up their appetites so they got to eat a snack -- ants on a log.

It was a nice treat for the kids and a fun day for the United Way volunteers.
