PLEASANT PLAINS, ILL. (AP) -- A funeral service is planned next week for a central Illinois soldier killed in a helicopter crash while serving in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Josh Powell will be buried with military honors on Tuesday.
Powell was a 25-year-old Pleasant Plains High School graduate.
He was among nine service members who died Tuesday during combat operations in Zabul Province, Afghanistan.
Powell was assigned to the U.S. Army's 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that visitation for Powell will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church West in Springfield.
Funeral services will follow at that church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Powell will be buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
