MACOMB, ILL. -- We now know more about the deadly trailer fire in Macomb that killed the two children of Charles and Dendy Smith.

KHQA confirmed with Macomb Fire Chief Andy Taylor this afternoon that the fire has been ruled accidental in nature.

That came after a joint investigation with the Macomb Police Department, Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshall.

Taylor says the September 24th fire was most likely started by an unattended burning candle.

That fire killed six-year-old Austin Smith and four-year-old Mindy Smith.

It started in the living room which was next to their bedroom.
