If you're looking to improve your home, but aren't sure how to fund it, help is here.

U.S.D.A.'s Rural Development urges homeowners living in communities of less than 20,000 people to use its low interest Repair Loan Program. People who qualify for the loan are in very low-income households. You can receive up to $20,000 in loans depending on your credit history.

"The program's been around for many years but people aren't using it as much as they should," says area specialist Jeff Seefeldt of Quincy. "Especially as the economy's weakened and expenses keep going up for people, we want them to know that they can take advantage of our one percent interest rate repair loan program."

It takes about a month to get approval for the loan. Anyone hoping to qualify can call the U.S.D.A. office in Quincy at (217) 224-9307.
