QUINCY, ILL. -- It's Boy Scout popcorn time, and Tuesday evening parents met in Quincy to get all the information for the sale.
But one Den Mother got quite a surprise at the banquet.
Paula Mertz says she showed up for the spaghetti dinner and to learn about the popcorn sale when she was surprised as an inductee into the Boy Scouts of America's National Hall of Leadership.
This award is nationwide recognition and only 300 inductees were selected out of a pool of 7000 nominations.
Mertz was selected because of her leadership and the impact she's had on scouting.
"It provides them with a lot of opportunity to give back to their community. It's something we talk about all the time in our den. What can we do for our community? It's also about leadership. They get a chance to do things they might otherwise wouldn't have done," says Mertz
The names of the inductees from all over the country are placed in the archives of the National Scouting Museum.
Congratulations.
