CHAMPAIGN, ILL. (AP) -- September in Illinois this year saw close to normal temperatures.

Illinois state climatologist Jim Angel of the Illinois State Water Survey said Thursday the statewide average temperature was 66.8 degrees.

That's about a half-degree above normal.

Many places in southern Illinois reported temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s.

The highest temperatures were in Fairfield and Grayville. Both hit 99 degrees.

Several counties in southeast Illinois experienced drought conditions, while Quincy Lock and Dam 21 reported 8.10 inches, the most rainfall in the state.

What's ahead? The National Weather Service outlook for October shows increased chances of warmer and drier than normal conditions across Illinois.
