MO Attorney General's site teaches safe online techniques
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- These days there's not much you can't do on the internet.
Unfortunately, whenever something new pops up, you can bet that criminals won't be far behind trying to take advantage of you.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster recently unveiled a new website to keep you and your children surfing safely.
This KHQA Safe Family report takes you on a tour.
The Surf Safely website is loaded with information. It's built with just about everyone in mind. If you're a parent, educator, teenager, or child, there is a section for you to keep you safe. You can also find links to other websites, even games for the younger kids at the Surf Safely site.
The idea behind the website is to be a one stop shop for other safety website. You can click on the Surf Safely site, and then linked to dozens of other web pages that offer safety tips for you and your family.
Here's one link we found interesting for parents. It explains all the acronyms that are used via text messaging and on social networking sites. There are hundreds of acronyms on this list.
You can also schedule a presentation to visit a local school.
A representative from the Attorney General's Office will come to the school and give a presentation with safe surfing tips and will focus on social networking sites like Facebook.
