ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- The Adams County Health Department says fewer people are getting their flu shots compared to this time last year. A registered nurse with the department, Karen Spring, says fortunately, the flu virus hasn't hit Adams County yet.
In your KHQA Safe Family Report, Spring says getting the vaccine is still a greater benefit to your health than not getting one at all. She attributes the decrease in shots due to the weather the Tri-States has experienced over the last month or so. With temperatures well into the 70's and 80's, she says people aren't thinking of the flu or last year's scare of H1N1.
"Way back in May of last year, people started talking about H1N1, how important it was and that it was going to be an epidemic. People were out there getting their flu shots and then they followed up with the H1N1. Now this year, with the flu shots, the H1N1 is included in it, so in just one shot, you're protected," said Karen Spring.
The Adams County Health Department is holding a flu shot clinic Sunday, Oct. 17, from noon to 3:00 p.m. The vaccines are $25 a piece. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.
