HANNIBAL, MO. -- Locals couldn't have asked for better weather Saturday for the many events taking place outside across the Tri-States. 275 walkers, runners and bikers took over the streets in Hannibal Saturday morning to raise support for breast cancer.
The day's "Run or Ride for the Ribbon" allowed participants the choice of a 5k walk or run, and either an 18 or 50 mile bike ride. No matter which they chose, they all had one thing in common.
"We are running because we're fighting cancer," said Abi Delaporte.
"I'm walking because my mother is a five year breast cancer survivor," said Lorri Grimes.
"In memory of my mom who had breast cancer and my grandmother, who had breast cancer," said Kathleen Herrington.
"It's made me more aware that I need to continue with mammograms and just stay healthy," said Grimes.
"I get my checkups like I'm supposed to, because you gotta stay ahead, you gotta do your check-ups," said Herrington.
All of today's proceeds will go to Northeast Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness programs and services donated through the American Cancer Society.
