QUINCY, ILL. -- Hundreds of people walked Saturday in Quincy to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The Quincy Historic Business District and Blessing Breast Center hosted the 4th annual Pink Pass it On in the District 5k walk.

A ribbon cutting by the mayor and a balloon launch started the walk.

Each person has a different reason to walk...

"I'm supporting my friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer in the end of April, first of May," said Gena Allen.

"We're walking in favor of my daughter's grandmother," said Cheryl Hollensteiner.

But the reality is still the same...

"Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women these days so I'm out here to support the cause and help in anyway I can," said Theresa Canup.

Women, men, adults, and children started at Washington Park and walked down Maine Street-- all putting their best foot forward to walk for a cure.

"Breast cancer is an uprising thing so we need to get control of it," said Hollensteiner.

The walk not only raises money for breast cancer, it's a way to show those affected that they're not the only ones.

"Everybody needs a friend to support even though you're not there everyday, everyone should know somebody is there for you, behind the scenes," said Allen.

Last year, 53 women received more than 30 thousand dollars worth of care with the help of the Blessing Breast Cancer Financial Assistance Program.
